Let's Hit the Gym

What's one of the best things about the holiday season?  And I'm talking about the holiday season that starts around Halloween.

FOOD!!!

In our household we like to be really on top of things, so we buy really good and expensive Halloween candy around the first week of October.  Then we proceed to eat it all and have to buy another round.  I think we literally had four rounds this year....

All our (ok, so maybe it's just me but it makes me feel better to say "our") candy eating continues into November and then we come to Thanksgiving.  So, we add turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and pie to the candy mix.

Then starts Christmas cookie season and potluck season and Christmas party season and we add a plethora of food to our already full bellies.  And if you're like me, you don't even try to stay healthy, you just eat and eat because it's CHRISTMAS!

what I look like come 1 Jan...

Then, we go to Vermont for a week and eat 24 hours a day.  Literally.  Playing games may not be hard work but it's impossible to do without a giant bag of Cape Cod potato chips and sausage/cream cheese/salsa dip and more cookies, and five meals a day.  Yup, trust me, it's impossible.

By the time I arrived home, my little intestine was plumb worn out.  She had been digesting food non-stop for weeks.  So, I'm trying to giver her a break by not eating 24 hours a day.  It's a hard habit to break but having to sit at my desk all day helps a lot.

My eating-machine husband DOES NOT help.

My work pants about to bust a button help.  Along with my one-month-post-pregnant sister being able to fit in pants that are a little snug on me...

So, hubs and I headed to the gym today.  I had wanted to go running during lunch at work but had an interview during my lunch break.  Tomorrow I have another lunch engagement.  So lunch-time running is gonna have to wait.  So I headed to the hamster machine and punched out three miles.  It's too embarrassing to tell you how long it took me to get those three miles done, but they are done.  Along with a few lifting of light weights.

And now I'm eating a lovely piece of banana cake (I can't quit cold turkey and my little body can't survive without at least ten pounds of junk food!), but I did eat some veggies for lunch which is a huge improvement.  And I took a break between lunch and dinner - I went a good couple of hours without putting food in my mouth - amazing!

I guess I've joined the five million other people who made a resolution to lose weight after the New Year.  However, my jouney has nothing to do with New Year's resolutions and all to do with the fact that I love to eat all holiday season long and only after there are no more cookies, cakes, turkey, pies, and oreo balls do I decide to get back on my normal Jan-September eating pattern.

But, since literally, there are no more Christmas treats to eat, it makes it really easy!!!

  1. I hit the gym yesterday at lunch and only punched in 2 miles but considering that I didn't get near enough excercise for the past 2 weeks .. it was a start. I too resisted the urge to consume the copious amounnts of salt and sugar that had been permanently displayed on our coffee tables and buffet. I have had my fill and now it is back to health!

  2. I am a holiday eater just like you, but my genetics make me much larger than you. Your freak of a sister is proof - back into tiny jeans one month later. That kills me. Four and a half years later I'm still not back in my old jeans.
Enjoy the good genes and the fact that your pants are tight, but you can still wear them. I bought new clothes. :-)
I'm with you - cut back on the food a little and start up exercising and you'll cut more food out later. I'll be doing the same thing soon, myself! Here's to a winter of making up for autumn. :-)

  4. Oh my goodness - my family is the same way!!!
Only sometimes, it's like every weekend is Christmas.
    It's bad.

Haha and this week at work I realized how hard it is for me to actually go a few hours without eating! I always have little snacks throughout the day because my lunch break just isn't enough....which is probably bad. Maybe I should work on that. :P
